Quick guide on how to remove BMW instrument clusters.
Models covered:
- 1997 to 2003 BMW 5 Series (e39) : 525 528 530 540 M5 (e39)
- 1997 to 2001 7 Series (e38): 740 750
- 2001 to 2006 x5 Series (e53) : x5
Tools needed:
- Torx #10 Screw Driver
- Phillips #2 Screw Driver
- Flat Head Screw Driver
General Removal Process:
- Find a place to Park Your Car for a few days.
- Move the steering wheel down and out and out of the way.
- Pry off the wood grain plates on either side of the steering wheel to expose the lower bezel screws.
- Remove the Phillips screws from the bottom of the bezel and the Torx screws from the top.
- Detach the right side wires and move bezel out of the way.
- Remove the Torx screws from the top of the cluster.
- Pull the instrument cluster forward to get access to the wiring on the back.
- Unplug the three wiring harnesses from the cluster and remove it from the dash.
- Pack it up and send the cluster to us for repair
