Fall 2008 Fashion Trends

The highlights from the fall shows are as follows:

Silhouette or Shape

• It's the return of the waist!  Designers are beginning to move away from trapeze type blouses and dresses.  Styles are becoming more gathered, tapered aor belted at the waist.
• Leg shapes are slim iwth lots of straight, skinny legs on the runway.  However designers have not walked away from the wide leg trouser, which can look great with a slim fitting cardigan or boxy cropped jacket.  Also shown were tights with skirts and dresses, another way to show off your legs.

Colors

• Navy is the new black!  Navy and inky blues appeared on almost every runway this season, with other key piece shown in neutrals and grays.  Accent colors used in layering pieces and in prints were jewel tones of purple, peridot green, golden maize, magenta, hermes orange.
• Printed fabrics have been in trend for many years, designers are still showing graphic prints and romantic florals.

Fabrics

• Satin and chiffon are still essential for your wardrobe, these fabrics have a romantic feminine edge which off set the more masculine pieces in your wardrobe.
• the shine factor in fabrics are still trending, any fabric that has a shine or sheen can easily transition from day to night.
• Menswear type plaids that are subtle, such as tonal grey or beige are a perfect mix with feminine blouses, belted with a cardigan sweater or boxy jacket.

Accessories

• Belts were a huge influence at this year's runway shows.  many designers showed entire collections with belts.  Belts are on the slim side for fall 2008.  Gone are the thick wide belts of the early 2000s.
