AVOIRDUPOIS POUND = (16 OUNCES) ONE TROY POUND = (12 TROY OUNCES)
DON'T GET FOOLED!!
BUYERS BEWARE!! - (Especially NEW buyers) - Several sellers in the last few months have started misleading buyers (again, mostly NEW to eBay) with this new trend of deception and trickery with these "ONE TROY POUND LB SILVER" auctions. Be on the look-out for sellers that are selling bundled lots of silver bars or coins with a description title of "1 TROY LB POUND OF .999 FINE SILVER BARS" or "ONE TROY POUND LB OF MIXED ROUNDS .999 FINE SILVER" or some variation of these words!
What these sellers are doing is showing tons of silver bars or rounds on their gallery pictures making buyers think they are going to get a ton of silver when all their actually getting is ONLY 12 TROY OUNCES OF SILVER! (12 single coins or bars, NOT 16) - The seller is hoping that when most of these typical buyers see or hear the words "Troy Pound LB" they will automatically assume 16 ounces or 16 pieces of silver. You will even see in the sellers feedback that some very unhappy buyers have posted that they felt "tricked & deceived" by the pictures the seller posted on their auctions. These sellers WILL NOT post a picture of just what your getting and that's it. It's always pictures of a lot more silver usually sheets and sheets of it or just a big pile of silver on a table.
These sellers will have (sometimes, but not always) the explanation of what a "Troy Pound Lb" really is on the very, very bottom of the auction or not at all. They will also purposely have it on the very bottom knowing that most buyers will not get that far in reading the whole description. They will also usually have a ton of writing in the auctions description to make sure the buyers don't read the whole thing, at least that's what their counting on anyway. Most new buyers just see a picture of all that silver and may read a line or two and that's it! That's what these sellers are hoping for and once again, counting on.
Some of these sellers are grossing over $300 at times (see their feedback) for just 12 bars or coins. That's $25 or more a bar their getting for these auctions. Most any seller that has sold silver bars or coins knows that a typical bar or coin goes for just a few dollars over the spot silver price. By selling silver in these auctions with "One Troy Pound Lb" as the heading title they know the unsuspecting buyer will think their getting a better deal and go with them. These sellers will have the words "One Troy Pound Lb" or some variation wrote about 5 times at the top of the auctions description to get the buyer hyped up thinking he or she is getting a better deal then they really are.
The worst part about this whole thing is that when these (mostly) new buyers receive their orders and get mad, they will finally read the auctions WHOLE description and realize they have been duped. It will be to late by then though and the seller will be in the clear because they can say that the info was on the auction for them to read and it's not their fault that the buyer didn't read the whole thing. Plus the seller will have "NO RETURNS ON SILVER" to cover them from the buyer trying to return it for their money. So when the buyer does leave a remark in the sellers feedback about being took all the seller usually says, if anything, is "you should have read the whole description".
SO MAKE SURE YOU ALWAYS READ THE WHOLE AUCTIONS DESCRIPTION FIRST. IF IT SEEMS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE, IT USUALLY IS!!
