There has been a flurry of sellers; including powersellers, selling an Upper Deck Code List. You can find the codes under key words; Upper Deck rewards, codes, points, or Upperdeck rewards, codes, points. Sellers are using many key words like IPOD, PSP, NANO, LEGOLAND, etc against ebay policies to sell this list. Sellers are claiming this is a list of codes; usually worth about 1 million points; can be used to get the free stuff mentioned above at the Upper Deck Kid website.
The problem?
Not only are many sellers tricking people by listing these list codes under video game systems, using pictures of new PSPs, IPODS, etc, sellers are selling this list anywhere from 99¢ Buy It Now to over $100; YES, $100 for auctions that are let ridden. Many people paying high amounts for this auction think it is for the prize mentioned or do not know how to properly search to find the 99¢ Buy It Now auction.
The Catch?
Upper Deck only allows those under 17 to participate, you can only input about 125 codes per day, which equals about 4600 points per day, and only for about 10 days PER MONTH....the program ends in March, 2008. So, if anyone is buying this list now, there is no way to purchase the items that have been advertised in the auctions due to the high points needed to buy the popular and expensive items.
These auctions usually break at least one of the points in the Compilation & Media Rule:
Cannot contain any cross category information
Can only be listed in the Everything Else Information Products category.
Cannot be combined as a bonus item with any other listing.
Cannot contain any specific brand names or keywords unless the auction is offering that item in question.
Cannot contain excessive keywords to describe the contents of the compilation or informational media.
Cannot offer info on how to purchase specific items or receive them for free, outside of eBay.
Cannot give listings of URLs that offer buyers the opportunity to buy thins outside of eBay.
Some auctions are more blatant being listed as a video game with every key word listed, giving where to go and how to use the list. Other lists may be listed in the right category, but if you go inside the auction, there will always be a key word or website inside, violating ebay policies.
I have turned in hundreds of these auctions without much success. The ebay staff seems to pick and choose which ones to shut down even though they all blatantly break ebay rules.
Again, ALL OF THESE AUCTIONS break one ebay rule or another! They are a perfect scamming area for newbies.
If you see these auctions, PLEASE click the 'Report this item' link at the bottom of the auction: Here are pics. Ebay won't allow them to be bigger without getting fuzzy.
Then click Listing Policy Violations, Compilation & Informational Media, Inappropriately listed informational items.
Then click 'Continue' to go to the next page.
Then click the EMAIL US link
Then click 'SEND', the auction number will already be in the box.
Why am I writing this?
In hopes some people will do a search, read the auctions very carefully and learn how this works before getting scammed.
Avoid the lists!
