It seems like every time I turn around there is a new scam. Here is one that was new to me: I received a "question" from a potential buyer for a designer handbag I had listed. It was in My eBay. But when I went to read the question I discovered that it was actually a solicitation for some website for wholesale designer handbags from someone in Japan. Yes, this person or persons was trying to get me to go to their website.
Well, as you can imagine, I wasn't too happy that this person had wasted my time (and misused the question forum), so I reported this incident and the member's ID to eBay. I received a message back from eBay's Trust and Safety Department informing me that it was their belief that the email was sent as a result of an unauthorized account takeover. I was advised to never reply to such emails (thankfully, I didn't). Unscrupulous persons use this method in order to get a member's email address. Surely we all know that it is against eBay's policy for members to buy or sell outside of eBay. And we know to avoid such messages, but I didn't expect one in "My Messages".
So, fellow members, here's another scam to add to your list. Beware of the "fake question". If you get an email like I did, erase it immediately and contact eBay (after you get the member's ID and pertinent info. to pass along).
Thanks for reading my guide. If you thought it was helpful (of course you did), don't forget to click "yes". And please visit my store, Mia Bela Fashions.
