Most people are aware of news reports and recalls on Chinese painted toys that had lead in them. What many people do not know about is the lead that is in Chinese jewelry and other metal products as well as the cheap oil paintings being sold here and elsewhere. The Chinese government has steadfastly refused stop the manufacture and exportation of these products which can contain unsafe levels of lead. What is really of concern is jewelry made with lead and other metals and described as silver, gold, etc. Putting a lead studded earring on could really cause you some long term health risks. We would urge all to essentially not buy any Chinese products until they ban the use of lead in them. Most of the sellers of these products are not the manufacturer and do not really know what is in the products that they sell so asking them is fruitless. Until the Chinese government bans this practice you are at a high risk if you buy their products even if they do seem to be a good deal. Just don't do it. You can't put a price tag on your health. Buy U.S.A. and also ask the seller if the item is made in the U.S.A. It is the only way to reduce your exposure to lead in these products.
