Beryl is a gemstone species that has many subcategories. The most commonly known forms of beryl are emeralds, aquamarine, goshenite, morganite, and green beryl. One form of beryl that is very rare and valuable is bixbite. Bixbite is similar to morganite but has a much more intense color, similar to a ruby. Bixbite can retail for well over $10,000 a ct and is a stone any collector would love to have. Be sure when buying emeralds it is not confused with the less expensive green beryl. Green beryl has a much lighter color. Many websites are selling green beryl as emeralds. Beryl can come in enormous sizes, some faceted stones are over 600 carats each! Below are the different types of beryl commonly found in the gemstone marketplace.
