Bay Area Artists Are Always Representing There Area Codes, What Area Codes Are For What Cities And What Rappers Rep What Codes?

Their are numerous area codes in the Bay area, and you can use these codes to organize your Bay Area rap collection.

415: This code represents San Francisco and Marin City. There is a whole array of San Francisco artists to choose from. San Quinn, Equipto, Cellski, Baldhead Rick, Guce,Messy Marv, Andre Nikatina, Fully Loaded, Willy Henn, Cougnut (R.I.P), JT the Bigga Figga, RBL Posse, 11/5, Sir Dyno, Rappin Fo Tay, D-Moe, Shagg Nasty, 5150(Marin City) and many more. The 415 is known for having the most urban style out of all the area codes in the bay. There is a lot of talent coming out of the 41fifth.

650: This area code is designated to the cities just below San Francisco head towards the south Bay. Cities include San Bruno, Daly City, San Mateo, Palo Alto, Pacifica, and Redwood City. Artist from the 650 include Big Macc Aka Bigg Rigg, Nocturnal Hustlers (Savage C and K.D), Johnny T, Sheisty, Totally Insane (Mac, A.K), Chunk, Mista Kane and more. This area has not got to many artists but it's gonna change with the help from artists like Nocturnal Hustlas putting in work, and spreading the word.

408: This is one of the least represented of all area codes. The 408 is designated for cities such as San Jose, Milpitas, Cupertino, Sunnyvale etc. The only artist that I know of so far that are putting in work for the 408 are Assassin and Gansta Reese. Hopefully that will change and we can watch the 408 evolve into a major factor in the bay.

510: This area code represents the heart of the eastbay, with cities such as Oakland, San Leandro, Richmond, San Pablo, Alameda, Fremont, Hawyard and more. The 510 is home to the pioneer Too Short as well as Yukmouth, Numskull, Keak Da Sneak, Agerman, B.A, M.C Hammer,Digital Underground, Hieroglyphics, Dru Down, Richie Rich, AP-9 Spice 1, Billy Bavgate, Mistah Fab, and much more. The 510 is the backbone to Bay Area rap and a must have category for your collection.

707: My particular favorite area code, probably because I was born and raised in the 707. The 707 is designated for the north Bay and goes all the way up to the Oregon border. Cities include Vallejo, Fairield, Vacaville, Napa, Santa Rosa and Sebastopol. The well known E-40 was one of the first to represent the 707, one of the more rural areas around the bay, home to a lot of talented artists. E-40, Mac Dre, Mac Mall, B-Legit, Lil Bruce, D-Shot, Dubee, PSD, Coolio Da Unda Dogg, J. Diggs, Crest Creepaz, Vidal, Mac Shawn, Celly Cell, N2Deep, Baby Bash, Young Dru, Miami the Most, Reek Daddy,Smoov E,Jack Pot, Pat Rich, Ziggady, Ray Luv, The Federation, Chuck Nutt and many more. Some argue that the 707 is home to more artists than any other area code.

925: Another up and coming region in the bay, the 925 is designated to the outskirts of the east Bay. Cities include Concord,Pittsburg,Antioch, and Pleasant Hill. The most known artistS in this Area are Woodie, The Mobb Figgaz ( The Jacka, Hustla, Ryda J Klyde and AP-9), A-Wax, Shadow, Lou E Lou, Lil Los, Uzi, Ghetto Stars, Freako and a few more. I recommend starting with Woodie of the Antioch rap group "Northern Exspozure" and Pittsburgs Mobb Figgas, their albums are good quaility and it will introduce you to other up and coming artists in the 925.

209: Also known as the Central Valley in the east bay, there are a handful of artists that come from this region. Cities include Stockton, Modesto, Fresno, Merced, Lodi, and Tracy. Rappers from this area include Killa Tay (Fresno), Clim aka Slim Loc 1 (Stockton), Young Droop ( Merced), Kingpings Only, B.G Evil and more. My personal favorite from this region is Killa Tay, who actually spends more of his time now in Sacramento than Fresno. Another good one is Young Droop from Merced, he has a fast and energetic style.

916: This code represents Sacramento. Although Sacramento is not considered the Bay, 916 artists often do work with Bay Area rappers. The top four rappers coming from Sac Town are Brotha Lynch Hung (24th Street), C-Bo (29th Street), X-Raided (24th Street) whos has recorded all but one album from prison after being sentenced for home invasion and murder 1, and Hollow Tip (North Highlands). Sacramento rap is a must have for your northern California collection, you may wan't to start with Brotha Lynch Hung and C-Bo, they are the biggest names to ever come out of Sacramento.

I hope I have given you a little bit of insight on a way to categorize and organize your Bay Area rap collection. A good idea is to buy a solid CD case holder (Case Logic etc.) for each Area Code. When I first started collecting I focused on the 916 then 707 and 415. Before I knew it, I had at least 50 albums for each area code, and I had a lot of good music to listen to.
