I think one of the best collectibles is bakelite. There are so many things to collect. Throught the years I have collected a lot of different things. For a while I did bakelite animal napkin rings, any of them. Then I got more picky and would only do ones with inset eyes. Then I sold all of them on ebay. I have collected bakelite bracelets for many years. I began collecting at the Paris Flea Market where I could get bracelets that were heavily carved for $5 - they almost wanted to give them away. In particular I love dress clips and collect them usually in pairs. I started to learn the different colors of bakelite. Red is usually the most collectible. Soft yellow is the most common. Then there are the marbled colors, Mississippi Mud - brown with swirled yellow. You find a lot of earrings in the swirled marbled pattern. Then there is kitchenware to collect , but I never got into that very much. A cake slicer, a spatula, and other minor pieces here and there. Bakelite radios were once very popular but then they started making replicas that were so good that it was hard to tell the difference. I can usually tell bakelite just by picking it up and rubbing it. It smells like faintly like formaldahyde. I will continue to do write ups on bakelite with more information on what to collect and how to find it.
