Hello all!
You have probably all seen what I call unfair shipping prices, for example I once saw a smartcard (credit card with microchip in it) being sold for a starting bid of a few dollars. Not too shabby, right? Probably not, but the shipping was $20. FOR A CARD! how much does a stamp cost? sure not $20! That is what I am talking about, charging prices far above what the seller actually pays just because they are feeling a bit greedy.
It floors me that these people actually think no one is going to catch on. Mabey they do not care?
Well you are probably thinking what can you do about it, Here's what:
1: avoid buying or bidding on items with unfair shipping prices just because it has a low bid or price.
2: ask seller what it actually costs to ship it to your zip code.
3: ask for a shipping price that is fairer to everyone.
4: If seller will not accomodate your request, explain to them that you will go elsewhere on eBay to shop.
5: see if you can use your shipping account to pay for shipping if you have one.
( if they will not allow this, you can figure something is up)
6: call the seller's selected carrier (UPS, FedEx, USPS, DHL, Etc)
and ask them for an estimate for shipping an item that weighs about as much as the item you are wanting to buy, then ask the seller to match the shipping price quoted by the carrier.
Note: Insurance for an item that is fragile or expensive is not usually a rip off.
For now this is all I can think of, I will add more or write another guide at a later date.
