According to the WHO Human cases of Avian flu so far are 208 with 115 deaths . Concerns about H2H transmission (Human to Human) has increased over the past week do to the the family cluster in Indonesia

If we are hit by a pandemic, many services such as water and power could be effected.  Stocking up on supplies ,can't hurt in case of any emergency arising.

Water, rice, canned food, crackers , fruit snacks raisins and peanut butter are just a few of the food items to have on hand in case you are unable to leave your home.

Portable stoves , batteries, solar flashlights and lanterns are also wise to have on hand in case of an emergency.

Pain relievers, over the counter medications , vitamins and a 3 month supply of prescription medications are also on the supply list.

Pet food, diapers, and Formula are also something to stock up on.

Masks are on the list, N95's are said to be the most effective in stopping the spread of germs in a pandemic. Bleach, hand sanitizers and rubber gloves are also being stocked by many people.

All in all better safe than sorry?

I lived in HK during bird flu and during the SARS outbreak. I have felt first hand the fear and panic that an unknown disease can bring to the public. Schools were closed, children were kept inside and masks were worn in public. Since no one knew to prepare, food ran low as did masks (gone).
