Being a GPS reseller I know what I pay, earn and keep after eBay and Paypal fees.

Example:

If I sell a unit for $409 my dealer cost is $374 give or take a dollar.  eBay and Paypal take their share and I keep about $10 and that is it! I am a volume seller, that is how I can afford to sell low.

You can look at the overall price of a unit by comparing sellers and see what the average price range is.  If it is much lower steer clear and investigate the seller before bidding or buying.  Read all of their feedback, look at the length of time they have been in business on eBay, their return policy and contact them and ask questions if you are not sure.  A legitimate seller will answer your calls and your emails and will offer several payment methods like Paypal, as well as checks or credit cards.  If they ask for a wire transfer or a method like Western Union then avoid doing business with them.

One last thing, most US MFR's have territory rights.  For example I can't offer a Garmin product pre-loaded with European maps to anyone in Europe as all of our products are pre-loaded with only US maps!  It is to protect both the sellers in Europe and the US.  Just as European sellers can't offer or buy US Maps pre-loaded.  So if you see someone in China, Singapore, Germany, Ireland, etc... offering a Garmin product loaded with US maps, call Garmin and confirm.  How can they sell something they can't buy within their country as a dealer or reseller?  If I can't get theirs how can they get ours?  They can't!

The internet is a fabulous place to do business, but do your homework and ask alot of questions before making a major purchase.  And eBay there is no place in the world like it, it is a huge marketplace offering the consumer some of the best and most competitive pricing available and has changed the way the world shops as we now have choices!

I would say 99.9% of all of my dealings online have been good...I have been online since 1994.

Hope this saves just one person from being scammed on their next GPS electronics purchase!

No matter how good it looks, make sure you are getting what you expect!
