Hello Juicy Couture Charm Fan-addicts!

I wanted to offer tips on spotting Fake (Replica) charms.  There is no better place to start than Ebay, after all. Juicy charms are perfectly 3d and fabulously detailed. There are few charms that can boast this.  Not even the genuine gold estate charms have as much detail or precision.  They get easier to detect after you see the common differences between like pieces.  There are two categories of replicas... the charm that is produced with excellent detail and tries to capture the same value as real retired Juicy, and the inspired piece that "fits" Juicy Charm Bracelets and happily attaches itself to the lower price point and does not make any unnecessary claims at great detail. The latter of the two is easier to spot. It is the very good replica that you must avoid, unless you are so desperate to have one in your posession that you would pay anything for a fake. Sometimes, that might be the case, but I will not get into the ethics of this particular beast as I have found the animation of this line of jewelry to be my Achilles heel.

  1. Juicy charms almost always have moveable parts.
  2. The closure is always ball in groove, never magnet.
  3. The backside of the charm may be gold and unfinished. If you have questions you can ask the seller to see a picture of the reverse...the ballet slippers and ghost are perfect examples of this.

Genuine -Perfect all around.            Fake - The slipper though it looks 3d has a false gold back.

Genuine                                                           Fake

The fake ghost has a flat gold back, the front is almost undetectably good, however. This fake ghost is not one of the better ones- the gold looks more like the original.

*****There is something going on with the gingerbread house charm lately,

                                                                                          and it isn't sweet.

Don't get me wrong, I actually like the improvement - I never liked the authentic fire and the terrier, I thought it resembled something my 3 year old made with red and yellow clay dough. But the Juicy Website (and Neiman and Nordstrom and every other site I could find) show this charm...

and Ebay has more than its share of ...

                Genuine                                                                                                 Fake

Quite different, wouldn't you say?

              Genuine                                                                                Fake

                       Genuine                                                                         Fake

             Genuine                                                                                  Fake

I will post more comparisons as I see them. Believe me they abound. I am constantly checking and rechecking my sources! Nerve-wracking really. But it pays to do your homework!
