Dear fellow Ebayers,
If you happen to buy an authograph in Ebay before, there is a 90% chance that it is fake. This is the typical case of "When the price is too good to be true......"
3 Ebay sellers operated personal eBay accounts under the names WOLFIE88, MMASGRL and RICHIEGECKO to sell the memorabilia.
They bought unsigned record albums and photographs of celebrities from various locations in Virginia, forged celebrity signatures on them and then posted them for auction on eBay's Internet Web site, court records show.
The listings described the items as authentic and offered certificates of authenticity that were also fake, prosecutors said.
From July 5, 2002, through March 11, 2005, Rachel Reyes made 5,266 sales to 3,360 victims, cheating them out of nearly $315,000.
From July 21, 2003, through March 11, 2005, Selisker sold 1,620 forged items to 1,104 people, stealing more than $118,000.
Jeffrey Reyes stole more than $130,500 from 1,125 people in 1,318 sales between Aug. 10, 2002, and March 11, 2005, court records show.
The women will be sentenced Jan. 16, 2007. Jeffrey Reyes' sentencing is set for Jan. 19, 2007.
Total 8204 fake autographs were sold, 5589 ebay victims and US$563000 cheated.
Next time you want to collect autographs, the best way is to make the celebrity sign one for you personally.
Best regards
