Due to rampant online fraud, great care must be taken when buying DVD series sets on eBay. There are many Asian produced versions out there that are deliberately misrepresented and sold as US produced versions, and their market is the US. The Asian sellers are in another country and cannot be prosecuted by the US for fraud. I have learned that in Shanghai for instance, you can buy any Star Trek series season on many streetcorners for $1.00 US, each. So, duping US buyers is a huge attraction I'm sure. Part of the problem is that expert hackers have found their way into eBay's system and managed to access and use old US based user IDs, ones that have not been used for several years. This way, they've managed to set up a network that leads directly to China. Example: I have seen several sellers use exactly the same listing under several different seller IDs. If you check the seller feedback, it is always a low number and there has been no activity for several years. The item listed is represented as a US produced set of DVDs, but what you will receive is a cheaply produced Asian knock-off, a poor substitute. If you attempt to contact these sellers after you receive the item, you will not get a response. One or more people will complain to eBay and eBay will then remove the listing and advise you to contact your bank or credit card company. It would be responsible of eBay if they took a more pro-active interest in preventing this kind of fraud, but it is very easy to write the problem off as "uncontrolable." Perhaps if enough people are more careful and really study the listings, they will not be so easily duped. Some buyers actually accept it when they receive an item that is dramatically different from what they thought they purchased. This is part of the problem, not enough people complaining to eBay. If you're not 100% sure you're bidding on a US produced set of DVDs from a US based seller, don't bid on it. Trust your gut instinct and go with it. You'll save yourself a lot of hassle trying to get your money back if you are not satisfied with what you receive.
