Please take care when dismantling old miners lamps as the gasgets were mostly made of Asbestos !!! some are made of blue grade which is very hazardous.

Before dismantling i soak in hot soapy water overnight to let the liquid penetrate the joints also to free them from the joined parts ( Gauzes etc ) If you want to keep the lamp with the original its worth considering soaking it with very thin varnish or clear nail varnish to bond the fibres together.

On no account use a wire buff to remove a partly stuck gasget as the resulting dust will be full of dangerous particles which are smaller than the eye can see and extremely dangerous to anybody exposed to them ( Children and wifes have been contaminated from clothing containing dust particles

Regards
