Are misspelled auction searches missguided?

There are a plethora of opportunities on eBay to "buy" access to misspelled auction search engines. In this guide I'll show you how to conduct these searches for free, and point out a few pitfalls to avoid.

It sounds good. Somewhere on eBay is that lost treasure that nobody can find and bid on because the seller misspelled the title. All that remains to be done is finding it, bidding, and winning the item for some ridiculously low amount.

All you have to do is send $X to the seller and he'll share this valuable information with you. Right?

Well, first let me tell you that you don't have to buy access to these search engines. There are several free ones on the web, all you need do is search Yahoo or Google. There's nothing special about the paid search engines, and some of the same ones you would pay for a link to, you'll find for free.

These search engines are free because the operator receives an affiliate commission from eBay (through Commission Junction) for any listing you find on their engine and buy. They're already getting paid, so you don't need to pay anyone to find out about these search engines.

But can you really find these bargains? Maybe, but they'll probably only be things nobody else wants anyway. The popular items are being found when buyers browse the categories, so as long as the item is in the right category it is safe.

So say you do find some hidden treasure anyway. Is it something you're actually going to be able to resell for a profit? There will be shipping costs you'll have to pay to get the item sent to you, as well as the usual eBay fees. There will be PayPal fees unless your buyer pays by check. Is the profit margin large enough to support all the costs of obtaining and relisting this treasure? That's for you to decide.

I can't post a link to any missspelled auction search engine here, but if you just search Google and do a little digging, you'll find the free ones.

If you found this information useful, please vote below. I'll probably get a few negative votes from people selling links to these misspelled search sites, but it will be worth it if I save someone the price!

Have fun!
