Appliques!Whatever type it might be...iron-on, peel-n-stick or sew on..easy applications! Wonderful embellishments with no limit to the imagination! Ideas and instructions on application are included in this guide!

I worked in a factory at one time that manufactured and distributed appliques as well as ribbon and trim. I also worked independantly as a seamstress. I love craft shows and attend as many as I possible can...a great place to visit to get ideas and spark the imagination!

The simplest applique to use is the peel-n-stick. This applique has a plastic piece that once removed, the applique can be applied anywhere. I have used these a lot in scrapbooks and on the covers. Have also used as an emergency repair for a hole or tear in clothing. I would suggest that if using on clothing, hand sew a few stitches around the applique. This keeps the edges from peeling away from the fabric during washing.

The iron on applique seems to be the most popular...only because I have noticed just how many are on the market. First, make sure the fabric you are applying the applique to can be ironed. A lot of delicate fabrics cannot be used. Always use a thin cloth between your iron and the applique. The adhesive becomes a liquid when heat is applied and you don't want this to attach to your iron. Place the applique in it's desired location. Set iron to temperature appropriate for fabric. Always use dry heat...no steam! Press from front for 10-15 seconds. Press from the back  for 20-30 seconds.  These can be ironed onto paper as well. Excellent for scrapbooks! I have even created some unique greeting cards in this fashion.

Sew on appliques don't have to strictly be sewn on. With the waterproof fabric glues and fusible bondings availiable, anything is possible.

The uses are endless! I have used them on blankets, totebags, book covers, curtains, lamp shades and of course, clothing. I've even created refrigerator magnets!
