This is a GREAT device from Apple. It's not just an MP3
player, but a personal assistant as well with calendar and note
functions that come pre-installed on your ipod. I purchased the Second Generation ipod touch.
It looks great (steel and glass) and feels great too. I was afraid it might be too small or too big? but it feels just right, not heavy at all either, easy on the hands and fingers. The resolution on the screen rivals that of an LCD screen VERY clear and VERY bright. Easy to keep clean, wipes off your fingerprints easily too as it is soo sleek.
Startup was very easy to use. The only disappointment so far is that it charges via a USB cable on a computer, there are no cords that allow you to charge this via a wall outlet. You can purchase a seperate wall outlet, but kinda pricey directly from apple, you can find one online here on ebay for much less. Otherwise you will be hooking this up directly to your notebook or desktop's USB port for charging.
Using itunes to upload any mp3's you have is a simple step. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PURCHASE ALL YOUR SONGS FROM iTunes ... you can upload ANY mp3's you have stored on your computer via itunes or created via a program such as Audacity. With this program your can record any cd's from your personal collection or any online audio. It's a great tool to use to store your cd collection digitally on your ipod or computer. You essentially play the song on your cd or online, the program "records" the songs, transforms it into an mp3 format then it's easily up-loadable to your ipod via itunes for FREE!
This Apple ipod touch has many unique features. The best feature is the wireless wi-fi. Being able to surf the net or email anyone via a small portable device is great. If you have wifi or wireless internet in your home your kids will love it and you will too.
Typing on the touch screen takes some getting used to, but the keyboard is large enough to type correctly on the screen. E-mailing on the go is easy.
Directions via maps and "live" weather with radar maps and severe weather alerts is awesome too. You can also use Google Earth live to find where you are and where you are going.
Storing your songs is great and "searching" for them is easy touching the screen and sorting through them is a breeze. The "external" speaker is fine and just load enough, NOT very loud, but this of course is not a personal stereo! If you have young children and do not want them to damage their ears, you can block the audio level to an acceptable level and not allow them to raise the volume too high.
All the extra Apple apps or applications are great.
Playing games takes some getting used to touching the screen, but some games are actually interactive where you move the device to steer or move the objects on the screen. Apple has many free games and apps you can download directly from the apple via the ipod. From customizing your iphone as an alarm clock, to using myspace or facebook via your ipod to travel tools, healthcare, news sites, navigation applications, live tracking to find where you are, even reading an online book ... the applications are endless.
I'll update this review with any additional info I have overtime. At this time I am 100% satisfied with it and might by a second one as a gift.
