Are you shopping for a replacement display for your Titanium Series Powerbook and is it unclear which screen you need to buy, or is the sellers ad not clear on which model screen is being sold. This guide is for looking for complete display assembleys only and not for just the Liquid Display Panel (LCD), some reference numbers for those are found in my Powerbook guide.
First please be sure you are in need of a Titanium Series complete Screen by checking first my guide on which model you have by clicking here.
Now while you are looking at the guide realize that their are 4 different model machines, M5884, M8407, A1001 and A1025.
Once the display has been removed from it's Powerbook base I used to myself not remember which model the screen was from, hence I have over time learned the quick and easy ways to tell within seconds which is which.
Why is this important ? Well like mention in my Powerbook G4 guide the Titanium Series came in 2 different resolutions, VGA and DVI. So this splits it into 2 groups, the VGA M5884 and M8407, the DVI A1001 and A1025. When looking at a complete display assembley like the one below, the 2 groups VGA and DVI can quickly be kept apart by looking at the color of the wiring on the inverter cabling.

Pink and White or Black cabling indicates a VGA screen with 1152 x768 pixels, so M5884 or M8407
Grey and Black cabling indicates a DVI screen with 1280 x 854 pixeks, so A1001 or A1025
On the VGA pink/white is most common, pink/black found on some M8407 models, but basicly the pink wiring is the key, vs the all dark wiring on DVI models.
If you are looking at DVI screen this is all the information you need as the reed switch locator magnet inside the screen bezel is located in the same location for either models A1001 or A1025.
Now if you are looking at a VGA screen the magnet to activate the reed switch is the crucial question, which could mean your powerbook will overheat if the wrong display is installed. The Magnet inside the display tells the reed switch when the LCD is closed and the powerbook should go to sleep. The location of the magnet and switch differ between the models M5884 and M8407. The easiest way to find out which is which is to take one little left over screw from your powerbook. Place the display LCD down on a desk and check in which location your little screw sticks to the display.

Lastly, just so you know the magnet location for the A1001 and A1025 while not important is in the same location as the M8407 displays. Hence a VGA display will work on a DVI machine of the M8407 origins but obviously not show DVI resolutions, vise versa a M8407 Powerbook will work with a DVI display but might have not enough video ram to run the display correctly.
This guide obviously will not hold true should the inverter cabling have been replaced by non standard colors.
Quick guide on the inverters used to turn on the backlight bulb inside a Titanium Series Powerbook. They are located in 2 different locations depending on the model.
VGA Inverter M5884 & M8407 located under the left speaker between logicboard and media drive looks like this.

DVI Inverter A1001 & A1025 located on the media drive caddy right under the lower cover mounted with 2 torx #6 screws looks like this.

Replacing the Inverter on a VGA machine requires almost complete dissassembley, on DVI machines it only takes removing the lower cover to gain access.
