This is a guide designed to point out what to look for when buying an apple laptop
1. Physical condition - if there aren't enough descriptions/pictures ask the seller to email you some more pictures
2. Pixels - dead pixels are just pixels on the screen that have died. One dead pixel isn't really enough to abandon the auction but a couple or more makes a difference.
3. Accessories - Does it come with the original box (serial number of the laptop should be on the box and should also be the same serial number as the one on the laptop), all cables, manual, CDs, any other cases or laptop bags?
4. Serial Number - THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT, you need to make sure the laptop is NOT STOLEN. You can verify this by asking for the serial number and calling 1-800-676-2775 (Apple Sales Support) and ask if they can check if an apple laptop serial number has been flagged and if the serial number has been registered. If it has been:
Registered and not flagged = very likely chance that it has not been stolen
Not Registered and not flagged = 50% chance it has not been stolen, there is still a chance that it it stolen
FLAGGED = STOLEN!
5. Don't purchase a laptop outside of ebay because ebay has buyer protection, just make sure you pay through paypal and you file a claim ASAP within 180 days (i think)
6. Software - Does it come with any software? Is the software pre-installed? Does the seller have back up CDs?
7. Operating System - Make sure the laptop has a current operating system and not the outdated one (tiger), also snow lepard is comming out so watch out for it! Make sure the seller installs a clean copy of the operating system and leaves no traces of their data, THEN installs the extra software (if possible)
Hope this helps!
