HBO's new BBC-spinoff Little Britain in America isn't everyone's cup of tea. Its randy jokes and skits aren't rooted in stiff upper lip sensibilities. However, there is an import from across the pond that's making fashionistas storm the automatic doors and shell out at the registers--London-based bag designer, Anya Hindmarch. (Click here for a previous piece on Anya with photos from her London store.)
Anya's bags are staples in upper crust shops throughout the UK (Harvey Nichols, Harrods, Selfridges) and around the world (Takashimaya, Isetan, Saks Fifth Ave). She's also opened a limited number of her own shops in tony centers around the world, including the The Mall at Short Hills and the Palazzo at the Venetian in Las Vegas. (Ebury & Casati photos courtesy of Anya's website.) Her guest collection for Target does not disappoint.
All of the bags are produced from a realistic and expensive looking PVC. Target has perfected this technology and featured the material in other guest designer collections, including Loeffler Randall and Devi Kroell. From a design perspective, Anya stays true to many of the features found in her main line backs (ranging from several $00s to $000s) as well as her bespoke (that's custom made for us non-royals) line where crocodile Ebury bags are around $13,000.
My favorite bag in the Target collection is the black satchel. It reminds me of the Ebury and packs in many of the features and details found in her main line bags. This is a classic bag, crafted from black faux patent with faux croc trim that's also trimmed in gold. The zip around front pocket features a tassel on the zipper and the front medallion is embossed w/Anya's signature bow and 'For Target' underneath. The top zip also features tasselled trim and all of the interiors are lined in a specially printed fabric with 'Anya Hindmarch For Target'. All of the bags in the collection feature interior zip pockets, finished exactly like the ones in her main line bags and also feature the signature golden bow logo imprinted on the leather-like trim. Most of the bags features an open interior pocket and several have four protector feet on the bottoms.
My other favorite bag is the front pocket tote--this is similar to her Lautner style, for about a $1k less! The tote features black faux patent with a large brown front pocket trimmed in gold. The front medallion (hidden magnetic pocket closure underneath) is embossed w/Anya's signature bow and 'For Target' underneath. Handy hidden snaps on the side to change the shape when you've stuffed it a bit and hidden magnetic closure at the top.
In addition to the large totes, there are also some standout smaller bags. I love the black/brown faux patent shoulder bag with a front flap (hidden magnetic)closure. The front medallion is embossed w/Anya's signature bow and the words 'For Target' embossed beneath. I also like the faux patent/croc-trim hobo style with the front flap pocket and hidden magnetic closure.
Anya rounds out the collection with two elegant evening clutched--one in ivory faux patent and the other in black/croc. Both feature buckle closures (w/hidden magnet snap underneath) embossed with 'Anya Hindmarch For Target'.
