Since I live in Columbia, South Carolina...I am very blessed to be able to travel to historic Charleston, SC when I have some free time. While I was there this Summer , I took many photos of the gardens in downtown historic neighborhoods between the Market and the Battery . I meander through the neighborhoods to get garden ideas for myself , so I can emulate the Charleston gardens in my yard. All of these statues and fountains can be seen from the sidewalk or driveways of these homes. I am a gardener...and if you are as well , you will probably enjoy these photos.
Beautiful old statue and birdbath in front garden , downtown Charleston.
Old statue of Fall ...they reproduce these Four Seasons statues now.
Old cast-iron 3-tiered fountain, inside large pool of water Charleston , South Carolina.
Cherubs and putti fountain with brick surround...most are always
painted black...then turn a muted black or charcoal color.
Another tired fountain with landscaped surround in long garden.
An original antique cast iron garden bench ...it would take two VERY strong men to pick this up .....gorgeous !
Most fountains and statues are viewed through heavy wrought iron gates and fencing that accent most of the yards in downtown Charleston .
This was an accent statuary and birdbath at a downtown Bed and Breakfast on the Battery .
Another lovely old fountain inserted in a round small pool of water , another very common design element in Charleston...they are either fountains or simply birdbaths or statues placed in the center.
I am only able to put 10 pictures in these guides, please check out the other guides I have about downtown Charleston...one is about the gardens, and one is about the pathways there.
I hope you can go to Charleston one day, there are hundreds of gardens throughout the city and you will love it !
Good luck ,
Gina
