Anna Sui is best known for her girly, flowy and beautifully crafted dresses and tops. Hard core fans also crave her cleverly illustrated t-shirts, no doubt inspired by her early days as a post-punk designer. She keeps the designs fresh by commissioning international artists such as Chooch, Jeffrey Fulvimari and Masiyuki Ogisu. These original creations range from sweet to edgy, reflecting the best in urban design--they often look like the cool posters plastered around town to advertise your favorite DJ or cutting edge exhibit. (For more info on past designers, check out her website.)
The latest series designer is Tokyo illustrator Marie, whose ‘mischievous and innocent’ Russian matryoshka dolls appear on t-shirts in Anna’s favorite shade of purple. They’re cute and remind me of Anna’s ‘Dolly’ design, inspired by the paper mache mannequins she created for her first boutique (and later for Pucci). These limited edition ts are available in Anna Sui stores around the world--snap yours up before they‘re gone. (photo courtesy of Conde Nast Traveler)
