Well, today I have recieved my Sidekick 2 that I purchased off ebay about half a month ago. I figured I'd give you an unbiased glance into the Sidekick world from a beginners perspective.
I wasn't suprised by the design as I already knew what the Sidekick 2 looked like, so basicly, what you see is what you get.
The shortcut buttons only took me about 5 minutes to figure out, which is pretty standard for any new phone.
The camera is okay, but not as good as my Samsung t509! Comes with flash, though, while the t509 doesn't!
Flipping the screen is very easy! I was a bit nervous the first time because it seems so delicate, but after a few tries it was normal feeling for me.
Now, what the hardest part to get used to is, is basicly the whole menu configuration. I'm used to having phones where it will have all of your options (ie: phonebook, text mes), plus it will also have a "settings" option along with those. The Sidekick 2 doesn't. To acsess your "settings" menu, you have to press the bottom left button that has a symbol resembling a circle on it, which will pop up a menu that has "settings" on it.
Basicly, the easiest way to sum it up is that this is like using a mini computer. If you want a phone where you can quickly and easily call someone, this might not be the phone for you. To complete a call, you either have to pop the screen open and enter the number, then either leave the screen up or close it and continue your conversation. Or, you can use the scrolling device to select number by number and then press the green call key.
The hearing is good, I wasn't sure with the phone being a bit bigger than I'm used to, but it's wonderful.
Oh, and if you are buying it used off Ebay, make sure when you recieve the item and you have inserted your SIM card that you do a soft reboot. You can do this by holding down the @ (by the spacebar), 1, and 0 (zero) all at the sametime, to clear off the previous users info. Your phone won't work if you don't do this. You don't have to buy the Sidekick package (20 bucks a month) from T-Mobile, unless you want all of the features (such as email), but if you just want to be able to call and text, and use the free features such as the calendar etc, then you'll be fine.
Make sure before you transfer your SIM card over, you save all the numbers of which you plan to take to the Sidekick to your SIM card.
All and all, it's a snazzy little phone for those who are technologicly advanced!
I'd suggest buying a vinyl skin or whatever you prefer for protection. This is one phone you won't want to scratch up! It has a great resale value as they stopped (T-Mobile) selling this model.
Thanks, and feel free to email me if you have any questions before you buy one off here!
