A lot of people lack confidence when it comes to coordinating their decor, planning to create a quilt or even painting a picture and the like. Here is a very simple technique that I came up with when I was about thirteen years old. When you have a decorating dilemna, etc. and you're just not sure how everything is going to look together - put all of your materials together - * close your eyes - open them and see if it catches you in a good way. If it catches you in a bad way, you either need to reconfigure your colors - 1 or all and repeat from the * until it catches you right.
Examples: You're re-arranging your house and you want to add a little bit of color. Stand sonewhere in the room and gaze upon what you want to be the focal point. If your eyes stop dead on something, you need to readjust your plans. Lights go well with darks because they compliment each other well. Different shades of one color also work very well. I personally mix light colors with dark colors because the dark colors really push out the light colors and vice versa.
You want to paint a picture - never start directly in the center or that's where your eyes will stay.
Creating a quilt; line your materials up, close your eyes and see where it takes you.
Get a color wheel and see the variety of colors.
The possibilities are endless.
And remember, I always like to say, there are no rules in creativity. Embroidery thread doesn't have to be use for just embroidery. Carpet tape is 2 sided tape and I have created my own stickers using it. The possibilities are endless because you are only limited by your own imagination.
