This is just a short FYI. I've noticed more than a few folks selling 'new' Ampex recording tape. You should be aware that The Ampex Corporation sold their tape division in November 1995, thus was born Quantegy. That means that any tape that says 'Ampex' on it is at LEAST 11 years old, possibly more. Even if it's still in the wrapper, never been recorded upon, 'new' is not an entirely accurate description of an 11 year old item that deteriorates over time. Even more can be ascertained about the age of the tape by checking the logo on the box as Ampex did change their box design a few times but I, however, am not knowledgeable enough on that subject to provide more info. Perhaps someone that knows will add to this post.
