Buying an antique quilt on eBay can be both exciting and scary.  Some people buy quilts for the "look" - they like the pattern or the colors regardless of the age.  Some are looking for a specific size to fit their 21st century bed.  Some look for early 19th century quilts, while others look for quilts with 10 or more quilting stitches per inch.  Some buyers want unwashed quilts while others want theirs freshly laundered.

Whatever your preference, there are quilts on eBay to suit every taste AND every budget, but be sure you know what you're bidding on!  Look for sellers with excellent feedback, good photos with close-up details and informative, detailed descriptions.  Don't be afraid to ask questions, especially if you're looking for a particular color - not all computer monitors are alike, and sometimes what the seller sees is not reflected on your monitor.

In order to utilize yesterdays quilts on todays beds, you'll need to know the bed size.  The following sizes allow a quilt to cover the mattress on all sides with 2" below where the mattress and box springs meet (with just the mattress top sizes in parentheses).  Twin or Queen Waterbed - 72" x 105" (39" x 75"), Full or King Waterbed - 87" x 108" (54" x 75"), Queen - 93 to 96" x 110" (60" x 80"), King - 110" x 110" (76" x 80", CA King 72" x 84").  You should be able to take the size listed in the quilt description and match it to your needs.
