In the October 2007 issue of “The American Philatelist”, the monthly publication of the American Philatelic Society (http://www.stamps.org) I published an article on Iraq railway stamps. To my surprise, shortly after, in reply to my article, I have received a letter from an 82 year old collector in USA.

He had sent me as gift a postal card dated 1936 from Iraq which is franked with such a stamp.
At that time, a friend of his father who knew that his son collect stamps, sent this card to his father who had passed it over to this generous collector.

The card was sent from MULTAKA UR which is UR Junction in the south or Iraq to Baghdad, dated 8. February 1936. Ur Junction lies 228 miles south of Baghdad West on the railway line from Baghdad West to Maqil. At Ur Junction is the railway junction to Nasiriyah.
Of course, the card is purely philatelic but it shows that:
1: it pays of to write and publish articles about your philatelic interests
2: it pays of to be member at APS (and other philatelic organizations/societies as well
3: APS members and stamp collectors are friendly and helpful.
With this guide, I like to thank the collector who had sent me the card. May god bless you.
