Amazing Race 9 - BJ Averell and Tyler Macniven
The The Amazing Race is one of the most popular reality shows on CBS television today. Contestants travel around the world in a race to see who has the best navigational skills, negotiation skills, and athletic ability. There have been nine different seasons of the reality show, and each one proves to be more intense and more challenging than the last.
Teams of two compete for the million-dollar prize. This year, the winning team was comprised of two young men who met in college. BJ Averell and Tyler Macniven, often referred to as "the hippies," took home the million dollar purse after competing in 12 rigorous legs of the race.
The race took them from Colorado to Brazil and then off to Russia and Germany. From there, the team raced through Italy and Greece, and then set out for Oman and Australia. The final leg of the journey saw the contestants traveling from Japan to Anchorage, Alaska and back to the original destination in Colorado.
While BJ and Tyler quarreled with the "Frat Boys" and "Mo-Jo," their friendship stood the test. The friends met while traveling abroad in college. BJ attended Harvard University while Tyler attended UC Santa Cruz. Their above average intelligence and background traveling the world helped them to win the final challenge over Eric and Jeremy, also known as the "Frat Boys."
