Always Check the Shipping Price
I just thought I’d sound off on something that has cost me a lot more money than the original auction should have. It’s the jacked shipping plus the penny auction price.
I used to buy a lot of sports cards on eBay and I always thought I was getting a great deal when I found a rare card for on $0.01 or $0.99. I’d buy it right away without think much of it and then when I went to pay I’d see that the total price for the card was $19.99 with shipping. I know it’s not as rampant as it was in the past but you still need to be sure to check the shipping price before bidding on the auction.
Many sellers still use this jacked up shipping price to make even more profits from the new eBay buyer. If the shipping price isn’t listed anywhere on the page chances are the shipping is so high the seller doesn’t want you to see it. Always be sure to ask how much shipping is before you buy any “low-priced” item. It’s really not that great of a deal if you end up paying $20 for a $10 item.
And remember this, if you buy something from eBay for $0.01 or $1.00 and pay $20.00 for shipping and the product arrives broken or significantly different than the listing says you are only entitled to the winning bid when you ask for a refund. That means that you’ll receive your penny back from the seller and they will keep your $19.99 that you paid them to ship a broken item to you. Just be safe and watch your back. I’m not saying that all $0.01 sellers are using these tactics, it’s just better to be safe than sorry.
