I wrote this Guide to give my opinion on the differences between Akai MPC Drum Machines
Akai MPC60 - If you find this gem for cheap & not beaten to death (Next To Impossible) GRAB IT. It has a feel to it compared to the MPC3000 (Arguably the best of all MPC's) You wont get all the bells & whistles of the New Machines, but if you're doing most of your programming sampling etc on the computer already (Battery,FLStudio Etc) then you can use this as sequencer which is the best part.
Akai MPC3000 - This is the Drum Machine Purists Machine . When you sample into it you will get a Great sound .Crunchy, Hot & perfectly Undigital like the new MPCs. You have to have a lot of patience with this one because manipulating the samples are a little tedious. Also, Its hard to find one in Great condition . Nothing beats the sound. I recently sold mine but I will be buying another
Akai MPC2000 - This was one of the first REAL EASY to Use drum machines. I f you are on a small budget id still say buy one because you can get it for cheap. I never liked the sound of it , But that was because I was used to the MPC3000 sound & didnt know how to combat that SUPERDIGITAL sound. Sometimes Digital is TOO Digital
Akai MPC2000XL - Same as Above, But with better software
Akai MPC4000 - This is what you get when you have a bunch of non musical engineers together to build a drum machine. When this dropped the software was disgusting. It took a long time for it to become the powerhouse it is today. Producers took this machine and basically taught IT how to be good. Thanks to Just Blaze its now THE PRODUCERS Machine of Machines the sampler is nuts. The Sequencer is a little confusing at first but powerful. Only serious dudes need to apply for this one it aint for lil beatmakers
Akai MPC1000 - The Menus are the death of this drum machine unless you just want the sequencer. Its annoying & I feel like im playing with a toy whenever I use it. But underneath all that exterior is fast Powerful Software that is reminiscent of the MPC4000
Akai MPC2500 - Same software as the MPC1000 without the stupid little buttons & menus . FAST, Powerful & it has a great future ahead of it. I currently use this for all my stuff. UPDATE . Selling it !
Akai MPC500 - Cute but the price makes it ridiculous. Once the price drops . get it
Do you need a Drum Machine ? NO , these days you can go all software OR all Keybaord . But theres nothin like pounding the pads of a classic machine MPC3000,MPC60 . Nothing like Having a piece of hardware that just WORKS WITH NO MOUSE Clicking MPC2500.MPC4000. Nothing more convenient than just truining it on and getting to work MPC1000,MPC500
Im interested in your thoughts. Hit me up info@Diggiti.com
UPDATE ALERT !! Im Selling my MPC2500 ! Im Making a RUN at Doing it ALL on my computer. What made me do this? Ableton Live !
Stay tuned for my review on that.
ALSO , I had a chance to check out othe New Roland MV8800 . Its expensive as heck , But Akai has to step its game up because Roland is trying to ruin them & ruin Korg at the same time with the New Roland V Synth GT. More on all of that soon.
Peace
