First Off, I’m A Retired Electrical Engineer. I Also Maintained A Very Successful Professional Audio and Instrument Repair Center. I Understand The Designs and Inner Workings Of Mechanics. Please Bare in Mind, I Do Not Skirmish, Nor Do I Personally, Field My Collection. But, They Have Been Enjoyed Immensely By Members Of One Of New York States Largest Airsoft Leagues. See, Pictures at, thewarstore.org
I Would Like To Add My Two Cents Worth To Those Who Are Contemplating A First Time Purchase Of Airsoft Ordnance.
I Would Like To Talk About The AEG - Automatic Electric Gun
I Will Just Pass On The Systema Debate, They Are The "Rolls Royce" Of Airsoft And A Basic Model Is Around $1,400.00 So Lets Just Talk Chevy And Fords.
My First Choice Is Without A Doubt ICS. I Own Three. ICS Has One Of The Strongest Mechbox/Gearbox Cases Made. Also, Straight Out Of The Box It Shoots Around 340fps, About 120fps Faster Than A Tokyo Marui,. I Also Like The Fact ICS Have All Metal Receivers/Bodies. The Barrels Lock On Much Tighter And Are Not Subject To Wobble. The ICS M-Series Break Down Like The Real Thing. And I Can Change Out The Upper Gear Box In 15 Seconds. I Was Able To Stand At The Counter At The War Store And Do A Complete Bore-Up And Spring Change In Five Minutes. The Mechbox/Gearbox Is Made With Thicker Walls And, Steal Shims And Bushings And I’ve Installed A 150 Spring With No Motor Or Gear Modifications But, I Do Have To Use A 9.6volt Battery Pack.
The Down Side, ICS Receivers And The MechBox/GearBox Are Proprietary. Everything Else Is Compatible With The Other Makers.
I Do Not Own Any G&G Guns But, The Few I Have Examined Were Just Gorgeous. Very Hefty, Strong Mechbox/Gearbox, No Wobble, And The Hardware Is Top Notch. They Are Pricy But, Well Worth Every Penny Spent. Many Of Their Guns Have Been Copied But Not Equaled.
I Also Own Two Tokyo Marui Guns But, There Is Japanese Laws In Place Which State 220~240fps Is The Maximum Power That Can Be Achieved. Tokyo Marui Receivers Are Very Life Like But, They Are Made Of Plastic And In General, Light Guns And Have The Plastic Body/Barrel Wobble Syndrome. Probably 95% Of The Tokyo Marui M-Series With The Colt Trade Marks Have Had Their Receivers/Bodies Colt Logo Melted Off By U.S. Customs Because Of Tokyo Marui’s Copyright Infringements. The MechBox/Gearbox Is Thin But, Well Made And, Will Probably Never Fail If Left Un-Modified. The Down Side. If You Want To Perform A Spring Upgrade, You’ll Need To Replace All The Gears And Bushings, Beefier Motor And Depending On The Size of The Spring A Better Case. I Recommend Just Barrel And External Upgrades For Tokyo Marui Guns. Besides Every Ad You’ll Read States "Compatible With TM, CA, ICS, JG" ETC.
I Bought A New JG M4 Just To Take The High End External Parts Off It. But After Further Examination I Couldn’t Believe The Workmanship Of Their New Offerings. But First, The Bodies Are Plastic And I Am Not A Fan Of Plastic But, JG Now Ships Their Guns With Tight Bores Standard And, The Mechbox Is Incredible! Very Heavy Gauge Walls, All Steal Bushings And A Very Powerful Motor Which Translates To 340fps Out Of The Box!
I Purchased A King Arms Metal Receiver/Body And Assembled A M4 With The JG Parts. The Biggest Down Fall Is The Crane Stock Is Not Suitable For Larger Battery Packs, Sub-C NiMh Battery Packs Are Out.
I Now Own Three Classic Army Guns. Two With Metal Receivers/Bodies And, One Plastic (Soon To Be Converted To Metal) The Receiver Is On The Way. The Classic Army Line Is A Very Durable And Well Made Gun. They Tend To Be Of Modest Velocity, Faster Than Tokyo Marui But Not As Fast As JG Or ICS. The Mechbox Is Better Quality Than Tokyo Marui And Can Be Upgraded To A Extent, Without A Gear Change. Their New Line "Sportline" Is Their Competitive Plastic Body Line. Not As Wobbly As The Tokyo Marui But Still Wobbly. In My Opinion The New JGs And The Classic Army Sportline Are Neck And Neck With The JG Having Nicer Hardware.
I Can Go On About D-Boy, Star, And A Few Dozen Other Manufacturers But, My Point Was To Identify The Higher End AEG Guns. You Should Read Other’s Guides To Help You Make A Decision. I Am Sure Many Will Agree With Me And Many Will Disagree. My Intentions Were Not To Make Controversy But To Inform And Express My Opinion. You Should Ask Questions From Every Potential Auction. Call Your Local Airsoft Supplier, (Not Dick’s Or Target) I Mean A Airsoft Center. If They Sell; Bowling Balls, Fishing Poles, Or Golf Balls You’re In The Wrong Place.
