I am a retired industrial mechanic ,and aircraft mechanic and have used almost every brand name air tool that you could think of and more over repaired air tools that belonged to assembly line workers . And in my spar time worked on hobby cars at a home shop with limited space and a vary small compressor . This brings to the subject of the quality of air tools that would work best on all jobs no mater if its at home or in the work place . I have seen many people buy Air tools made in Taiwan or China over the net for a Two dollar bid and Twenty Five dollar shipping and handling cost .You can belive me they are not getting a good deal even though the tool was new in the box . Most would have been better off with a slightly used USA made tool . Are all import Air tools bad ? No . Some of the tools that come out of Japan are really vary good ,and repair parts will almost always interchange with other Japan brand names . Almost all the problems incountered with air tools is the air supply its self . Most home shops do not have a large enough air compressor to run most of the air tools on the market . And The home users do not have air line oilers .Air Tools need some oil when running . This brings me to a recommendation , Ingersoll Rand makes air tools like a 1/2 " impact wrench that has a pressure feed oil system . And a check ball for getting some oil to the main bearing . A lot of IR tools can be had for good prices also . Some IR tools are made in Japan and others are made in the USA all are good tools for the bucks . I have had a few Snap On tools and performance is good but not enough to justify the outrages price . Mac Tools same deal . Chicago Pneumatic tools are fine tools for the money and some of their discontinued tools are almost indestructable . CP tools are so good some of the China tool sellers have even copied the name to confuse buyers (outrageous) . IF YOU SEE A TOOL MARKED CP MAKE SURE IT ALSO HAS CHICAGO PNEUMATIC ON IT SOME PLACE . Their are a lot of Taiwan and China tools out their that are almost IR and CP carbon copies and they almost copy the name to( like Central Pneumatic or Grip on instead of Snap on- get it) , but if you put them to the test they are just not as good . I am not nocking all products out of China .But most people will never see the better stuff . Some of the Aircraft tools out of China are not bad at all and the price is also fair . However you can't find that stuff at your local discount store .The bad things I have seen with discount tools are They use a lot of air to work right (a lot more cmf s ) , Parts brake that should not brake ever , Some units make to much noise .Some blow oil all over your arm or your work .And almost all do not have the same power as higher quality units . Air tools out of Japan seem to be from good to vary good and are servicable . And as you might have thought by now I would give my highest rating to Air tools from USA manufactures .First choice Chicago P , IR , Dynabrade , Mac , Snap on (just over priced), and some from Florida pneumatic and last Sears (I think the older stuff now is ok) . In that order .Some of the names have units made in Japan and they built to a higher standard then most no name imports but don't over pay for them .They usually lack some of the top line features . Last thing a few drops of oil in the air tool every time you start a job is vary important and don't use just any oil . Auto engine oil is for car engines not air tools ,Never use stuff called DRY lubes . THE Best oil is vary thin light oil , You can get air tool oil (AT) , some Air tools come with AT oil . Next choice is ATF ( automatic transmission )oil Ford or GM. synthetic ATF is best . Three and One oil is OK, And 32X (kind of a mineral oil) if you work close to food stuff .And The last note is always try to get the paper work with a used tool if you can,and never toss out the paper work with a new unit Its vary hard to get replacement parts for tools over the internet most manufactures are not to good at responding to E Mail .Also many units that look the same made by different manufactures have some interchangable parts . also please vote on this ,how did I do,and I may up date this later Thanks
