Adding an Adjustable Waistband to Jeans-Pictorial

Here's an easy way to add an adjustable waistband to a pair of jeans or pants.

Besides being a mom, I'm an active member and Moderator of authenticforum(dot)com  (visit my 'me' page and click on the banner)
For any of you out there who have tried to dress their young children in premium denim, it can be quite a task finding a pair that fits both in the waist and length. This is especially true for True Religion...while the inseam is sufficient, the waist usually runs quite large-making it nearly impossible to find a pair that fits your young one..and unfortunately, True Religion doesn't generously offer the adjustable waistband like 7FAM or Rock & Republic.
Just get these supplies and you'll be well on your way to being a pro!

a pair of jeans of course.....duhhhh

...and you'll need this stuff~ i was gonna include a pic,
but ebay only lets you put 10 pictures in a guide.. how reDONK!
Scissors
Thread-for this task- I have RED, DENIM BLUE & a RUST colored
A needle
Elastic-I've taken the pre-slotted band out of an old pair of jeans
2 Buttons
Seam Ripper
Marker or Pen
Large Safety Pin

And seriously..most importantly-
something to drink and some tunes...oh yeah baby

Now, you're ready to begin.
First...You'll need to sew the buttons on.
Place them accordingly, so that they don't hit your child's hip bones.
Use the DENIM colored thread or whatever color matches your jeans/pants.
If it's unmatchable..use invisible/clear thread.
Sew all the way through the waistband.
Then... draw a line where you'll be making the cuts for the elastic to enter/exit...approx a half inch away from the button.
Next...you're gonna take your seam ripper and make slits where the
elastic will go through.(you've marked these spots with your pen)
Then, you're gonna stitch all around the hole-using tight loop stitches.
I'm using the RUST colored thread for this...because I like it. =)
Don't go all the way through...only go through the first inner layer of the waistband!

Okay.. that was tedious, wasn't it? Exactly why I suggested listening to some custom tunes while doing this job.
Now, you're gonna put the safety pin on one end of the elastic..and wiggle it through the waistband.
but WAIT! ... these are True Religion..and we're gonna have to deal with that Belt Label.
...just have your seam ripper available..and once you get to the label-carefully take out a few
stitches (only wear the elastic will be traveling thru) and only on the inside of the waistband .......see pics
Keep wiggling that elastic through..until it comes out the other side!
Fasten the buttons..Yeah!

Lastly.. you're gonna want to go ahead and clean up that Belt Label.
Use RED thread for the vertical lines on the outside..and the RUST colored for the inside.
Make sure you don't go through the elastic!

Yayyyy! and here's your finished project!
Give yourself a pat on the back!!
Suh-Weeeet!
