The 1600SW monitor's native resolution is 1600x1024 pixels, which is supported by most but not all modern video cards. Screen distortion can occur at other resolutions (most notably during safe mode on PC's, and for certain games that take over the display) All Macintosh OS X machines are fine with 1600x1024 right from bootup. Wikipedia has more information on the history of this groundbreaking monitor, which is still competitive with displays manufactured a decade later.
You can pick up one of these monitors very inexpensively, if you're willing to go through a little bit of work to adapt it a modern computer.
