Costume jewelry (also called fashion jewelry, junk jewelry or fake jewelry) is made of less valuable materials, in place of more valuable materials Costume jewelry is usually inexpensive, and often flashy,as opposed to "real" (fine) jewelry which may be regarded primarily as collectibles, keepsakes, or investments.
The term costume jewelry dates back to the early 20th century. It may reflect the use of the word "costume" to refer to what is now called an "outfit"; for example, a "handsome street costume of maroon brown velvet". Thus the jewelry worn with everyday fashion (costumes) grew to be known as "costume jewelry." Another theory is that the term refers to the jewelry worn in theatrical productions.
Never bath or shower in your costume goldtone or silvertone jewelry!! It can make the shine wear off and the item can rust and also turn fingers different colors...
To care for your costume jewelry wear it with your outfit and then take it off..Clean them once about every 2 months with dishwashing liquid and a old tooth brush and make sure you dry the item well...If you don't dry the item it can take the shine away as a bath would do to the item.
Costume jewelry if took care of can last for a long time ,and stay as pretty as the day you got it.
