ABOUT POLISH POTTERY STONEWARE

Each piece of Polish Pottery Stoneware is handmade and hand-painted by highly qualified artists at one of the oldest Polish Pottery factories in the country - the Zaklady Cermiczne Boleslawiec factory.

All of our Polish Pottery Stoneware is lead and cadmium free and is oven, microwave, dishwasher and freezer safe because the artists carefully select their clays and bake them at the searing temperature of 1,230 degrees Celcius (2,246 degrees Fahrenheit). As with all stoneware, it is always best to avoid sudden temperature changes - for example, place the pottery in a cool oven and allow it to heat up with the oven. You will get to enjoy your Polish Pottery for so much longer if you remember that simple rule.

You will notice that the vibrant colors and designs in the Polish Pottery Stoneware allow for fun mixing and matching of patterns. You will also notice that higher level patterns in the DU/UNIKAT and the UNIKAT/ART categories cost a little more than the Classic and the Upper Classic patterns because they take longer to create and only the top artists at the factory are allowed to produce them. The UNIKAT/ART pieces are hand-signed by the artist.

Stoneware is a hard product shaped from opaque, white clay of the highest quality. The artisans coat all colored patterns with a transparent, protective glaze in order to prevent rubbing, wearing, and food from sticking. The exceptional colors are chosen according to Polish customs and include a unique, vibrant mix of cobalt blues, cuprous greens, and ferrous, reddish browns that encourage liberal mixing and matching with other patterns.

You can utilize these beautiful and durable wares for years and years while capitalizing on their multiple functions as cooking and dining instruments as well as decorative art. We cannot stress enough that these items are crafted to merely sit in a curio cabinet and look nice; rather, they are fashioned for both attractiveness and constant use.

USE AND CARE

  • Polish Pottery Stoneware may be used with confidence in your oven, microwave, freezer and your dishwasher. Each piece may be used in the regular oven at temperatures up to 350 degrees.

  • The non-porous protective glaze finish provides improved grip and easy cleaning - no need to soak.

  • Stoneware pottery retains heat and cold for long periods of time so be careful when using your dishes in the oven.

  • Please try to avoid dropping this stoneware. While our dishes are incredibly tough, all clay products are breakable.

  • Avoid sharp temperature swings: cold to hot and hot to cold. Always allow stoneware to cool to room temperature prior to adding liquid or cleaning. Putting hot stoneware into cool water can cuase it to crack or break. When taking a piece from the refrigerator or freezer, allow it to warm to room temperature before placing in the oven.

  • Do not use pottery dishes on an electric burner, under broiler or on direct heat sources.

  • Stoneware can become really hot in the oven. Always use a pot holder or oven mitt when dealing with hot stoneware for your safety.
