Have you ever thought about buying a perfume decant? Maybe you are not even exactly sure of what they are and what they consist of totally.  I will tell you what I have found by listing the pros and cons.

First lets start with what they are.  When you buy a decant, you are buying perfume that has been transferred into a smaller sized container from the actual authentic big bottle.

The Pros:

  • They hold enough perfume to really find out if a new scent you are wanting is really right for you.
  • They are much cheaper to buy than buying a bottle from the store to see if you like it. The large 3.4 oz bottles can run anywhere from $45-$150+ in department stores depending on the fragrance.  That makes $5-$8 look pretty nice when you aren't familiar with a scent, but you really want to try it because it's popular.
  • They make neat gifts! Many sellers take alot of pride in making the packaging & the product look attractive by adding their own personal touch to the packaging.  While it's not the factory logo box or branded packaging, they can be really fun to receive! Not all sellers do this...so ask questions about it if this is of concern to you.
  • They are handy to carry in your purse or gym bag or where ever you go.
  • They can come as roll-ons or atomizers. Whatever you prefer.
  • You can't find these anywhere but right here on Ebay!
  • Decants are full to the top! If you ever buy atomizer samples that have the branded logo on the sample bottle and come with "the card"...just beware that the bottle will most likely only be 1/2 -3/4 full. That's because they are filled on a manufacturing line and the same level of care is not given to these bottles. It splashes out. You will be paying for the name on the bottle more so than the perfume itself.

Now...for the Cons:

  • You don't get the original pretty glass bottle that the perfume comes in.
  • You don't know 100% for sure that the perfume is authentic because you don't have the original bottle.  Check the sellers feedback! This will tell you if the seller is an honest reputable person to deal with.  Most sellers don't lie about what they are selling, as with life, there are always those few who cheat.
  • You don't get the original branded packaging.
  • You know the old saying...the more you buy the cheaper it gets.  That stands true here too.  It is more expensive this way...if you just kept buying these instead of purchasing the real bottle it would cost alot. But that is not the purpose of decants. They are generally for trial or gifting.

Hopefully you have a better insight now on perfume decants!

It was a pleasure sharing my personal thoughts on this!
