The Bawo & Dotter Company was established in New York, NY in the mid 1860s to import and decorate fine porcelain, primarily from Limoges France, to North America.
The Elite Works was opened in Limoges in 1896 to both manufacture and also to decorate porcelain made by other factories. Their production included some of the most exquisite hand painted china, decorative pieces and jewelry /trinket boxes produced in this time period. The majority of the patterns were, but not limited to floral designs. The company used several identifying marks; several included St. Martial from the seal of the City of Limoges.
Production was interrupted during the devastation incurred during World War One. Post- War, they were purchased by the Wm. Geurin Company, and continued to use the Elite marks until the company known now as Guerin, Pouyat- Elite closed on 1932.
