AUTHENTIC ANCIENT ARTIFACT OR MODERN REPRODUCTION ?

If you collect Native American artifacts than this is a question you need to be able to answer. The modern day Flintnapper and E-bay Con-artist are very good at making there reproduction pieces. If your new to collecting Native American artifacts and can't spot a fake than ask a more knowledgeable collector to look at the piece before bidding. Another suggestion would be to visit the AACA and ask one of the members to view the item for you. The AACA (Authentic Artifact Collectors Association) is a group of collectors dedicated to the preservation of Authentic Ancient Artifacts. 

A few suggestions as to buying Native American Artifacts here on E-bay 

Look for the AACA logo or a claim of membership in the listing of the artifact. For a seller to be a member of the AACA they must offer at least a 14 day return period and also gurantee the authenticity of the piece they are selling. See if the seller also belongs to other Native American Artifact memberships.

Take the time to read the sellers feedback. Many of the artifact con-artist have good feedback because the winning buyers don't know that the pieces being sold are reproduction and the E-bayers who do know aren't bidding on there junk. Avoid the Native American artifact seller who blocks there feedback so you can't read the F.B. comments. Avoid the user ID private listings as the seller blocks the bidders name so other honest and knowledgeable collectors can't see who is bidding to let them know there being scammed. Well over 90% of the sellers using the user ID private listings are selling reproduction artifacts.

Be sure to read the category the item is listed in. Recently some of the reproduction sellers have been listing in the 1940 now and Flintknapping art categories and than within the item discription text wording the discription so the bidder believes the item is authentic. 

Look for quality pictures of the item listed. Many of the con-artist have fussy or dark pictures so you the buyer can't see the piece is modern.

Some of the most common wording in the item discription of the con-artist is just a real brief "We bought this at an auction"  "We acquired this in a trade"  "We were told it was whatever,,,"  "We don't know much about artifacts but,,,,

If you have been scammed or end up being scammed with a reproduction artifact being sold as authentic please be sure to report this to E-bay so they can take appropriate action against the seller.
