AUTHENTIC ANYA HINDMARCH BAG VALUE EXPECTED TO SKYROCKET IN THE NEAR FUTURE
I have a separate guide written, along with several other fellow Ebayers, on how to spot the fake Anya Hindmarch "I'm NOT A Plastic bag" tote bags. While reading the different guides, I noticed a couple of people who seem outraged at the price that even the AUTHENTIC bags are being sold for. I've also received hateful emails from people blasting sellers for asking so much for their bags. Apparently, some people are not aware of the actual value of these bags now. This guide is to inform these people of the REASON why the AUTHENTIC bags are selling for top dollar. Blasting sellers for selling AUTHENTIC bags for their current VALUE (which is no longer the original retail value) is ridiculous. And to compare sellers with authentic bags priced accordingly to their actual current value to the lowlifes who sell the fakes is just downright outrageous!
I'm coming to the defense of sellers who are listing authentic bags for their current VALUE. The original price of $15 is no longer the current VALUE of these bags. Here is an example on a much larger scale. A dress owned by Princess Diana that originally cost $5,000 is put up for auction. It is described as being PRINCESS DIANA's DRESS that she wore herself and the authenticity is guaranteed. The dress sells for a million dollars because of the DEMAND for an authentic dress worn by Princess Diana. It doesn't sell for the original retail price of $5,000. AND had it not been worn by Princess Diana and by a regular person, the value would have gone DOWN not UP because clothing prices do not INCREASE, they decrease, unless there is a particular interest in the article such as it is worn by a famous person or created by a famous designer and is a one of a kind. Because of this, the VALUE has changed significantly. The original retail price is no longer the actual value.
This brings me to the reason so many of us are OUTRAGED at the fact that the fake Anya Hindmarch bags are being sold as authentic. People are paying top dollar because they want to insure they ar getting the real thing and many people are buying these strictly as investments or they just have a personal interest in having the real thing. Let's say that Princess Diana's $5,000 dress sells for a million dollars and then the buyer finds out the dress was not really owned by Princess Diana and was never even in the same room with her, they would be highly upset (to put is mildly). This would mean they actually bought a dress VALUED at LESS than $5,000 for one million dollars. This is just an example on a much grander scale of exactly what is taking place on Ebay right now with the Anya Hindmarch bags.
This is ONE reason why so many of us are trying to put a stop to it.
The reason the authentic bags are being listed for top dollar in most cases is because the real ones have become a collector's item and the future value is expected to sky-rocket. That is what makes the sellers who are selling fakes for high dollar so unscrupulous and dirty....some people are specifically buying the authentic bags to put up as an INVESTMENT to be sold in the future. And these fake bags will be WORTHLESS and they are just throwing their hard earned money out the window. Some people have no need or desire to carry them, they are doing basically the same thing that people are doing when they buy stocks, bonds, gold, diamonds, sports memorabilia, watches, antique furniture, real estate, etc...things that will INCREASE in value in the future. This is why a person who catches a baseball that was hit into the stadium after a long standing record was broken does NOT sell the ball for the original retail price of $5.
The Anya Hindmarch bags are no different. They are an investment that may possibly have a huge pay-off in only months, not years or MANY years. Saying that a seller is doing something horrible (or God forbid comparing them to the ones who sell fakes) for selling an authentic bag at its current value is no different than blasting an antiques dealer for selling what was once a $20 table for $20,000. They are selling the item for its current VALUE based on interest, scarcity and DEMAND.
I realize I'm beating this subject to death but I want to make this clear as to why some very legitimate, well meaning, honest sellers are selling their bags for a higher price, they just know the actual value of the bag. The same people who are upset with these sellers would probably not sell their home for the price they paid for it originally now would they?
What we need to focus on are the sellers who are selling FAKE bags for exactly the same high dollar price tag. Do all you can to put a stop to it. Take the time to report the listings and the sellers. Complain to Ebay about the fact that they are allowing illegal activity to take place here. Report the excessive shipping charges that sellers are charging for these bags. TAKE THE TIME TO TAKE ACTION. Visit the International Anti-Counterfeit Coalition website and TAKE ACTION! IF YOU RECEIVE A COUNTERFEIT BAG REPORT IT TO THEIR LOCAL POLICE AUTHORITIES! REPORT IT TO EBAY! REPORT IT TO PAYPAL! REPORT IT TO YOUR CREDIT CARD COMPANY! REPORT IT TO THE IACC . ORG!
VISIT the International Anti-Counterfeit Coalition website for more information on the world's largest and fastest growing crime wave, the counterfeit market. Read the book KNOCK OFF: The Deadly Trade in Counterfeit Goods if you really want to understand what is taking place here. Counterfeit items are not harmless or victimless. You may not have any sympathy for the large multi-million dollar companies who are losing money (or even going bankrupt) because of the counterfeit industry but you may have a little sympathy for the CHILDREN who work under horrible conditions being paid pennies if ANYTHING to make these disgusting things. Or if that doesn't bother you, think about your own security as it is has been documented that terrorist organizations get a large part of their funding from the sale of counterfeit goods (see my separate guide on this subject).
Please do some research on what exactly takes place in the counterfeit industry. You can visit the International Anti-Counterfeit Coalition for more information or read books such as the one mentioned above. Your fake bag is not harmless and it just may be killing people.
And stop jumping on sellers for selling an item for its actual value. Jump on the ones who are selling a counterfeit item with a $2 value for close to $200. These are the people who deserve it.
