99% of most 'Anime Bootlegs' originate from Hong Kong since they have no legislation against piracy.

HOW DO I SPOT A ANIME BOOTLEG DVD?
1. Region Coding - If the Dvd is Region 0 or All Regions
(also known as Region free) then be extremely careful as very small
percentage (less than 1%) of legitimate dvds have no region coding.
2. Chinese Subtitles - this is a dead giveaway and is the number 1 way to spot a bootleg.
If
an anime title has chinese subtitles as well as english subttiles then
it's a bootleg. No domestic US anime dvd has chinese subtitles. Only
anime dvds that originate from Hong Kong have chinese subtitles and
these are 100% bootlegs.
It's also worth noting that the subtitles translations found on these dvds are simply awful and make little sense.
3. Title of Listing - almost all the listings with the heading 'ENG DUB' are selling a bootleg from Hong Kong.
4. Number of Dvds - Most, if not all Hong Kong Bootlegs
squeeze a 26 Episodes Show onto 3 dvds thus causing the video quality
to suffer. All US companies put put an anime series on 6-8 dvds to
maintain the highest of quality.
