Buick LeSabre, Buick Park Avenue, Buick Regal with 3.8 litre, 3800 Buick V6.  Rock Solid and America's Best Cars.

Below is a reprint from a Letter to the Editor in the Sioux Falls, SD Argus Leader from 1-24-09, written by Brent C. Kinsley of Yellow Cab.

"Recently, in a letter in the Argus Leader, Charles Snyder wrote that Japanese cars are more reliable than American cars.  He is wrong.

I've owned a cab company in Sioux Falls for 21 years.  I do all the purchasing of vehicles for the fleet.  Over the years I've tried many different vehicles, foreign and domestic.  There is absolutely NO comparison between a Honda Accord and Buick Park Avenue.

A Buick Park Avenue is by far more reliable and rugged.  The Buick is cheaper to maintain in terms of the cost of parts and availability.  They are cheeaper and easier to repair.

Recently, I took an out-of-town delivery to Buffalo, ND.  I drove a 1998 Park Avenue that had 162,000 miles on the odometer.  I drove 468 miles on 16.8 gallon of gas.  That's 27.8 miles per gallon!  The Park Avenue is full-size comfortable and most of all, reliable.

My record for miles on a cab, a 1994 Buick Roadmaster, is 462,000 miles.  The engine was never replaced and still running good.  I retired the cab because I didn't want to spend money on the transmission.  I bought the car for $3200.  It had 103,000 miles on it when it started its cab life.  That's 359,000 miles as a taxi cab.  Find me a Honda that can rack up just 50,000 CAB miles.  It won't happen.  They are just not as durable as the Buick.

There are American cars I stay away from because of my experience with them.  I try to stick with full-size Buick and Oldsmobile vehicles with the rugged, venerable 3800 engine.  This engine is BULLETPROOF!

Take it to the bank...American cars are better!"

These are comments by Brent Kinsley, but I support his comments fully.  Yes, Honda and Toyota are reliable and hold their value, but metal for metal, American built Buicks like the LeSabre, Park Avenue and Regal with the 3.8 litre V6 engine that commands 30 mpg cannot be beat and will run 250,000 miles consistently without fail.  You don't need a little car to get good fuel economy.  Buy an older Buick, Oldsmobile or Pontiac with a 3.8 litre engine and know that you have a reliable vehicle with real metal between you and the next person.
