The phenomenal gem, Alexandrite, is known as "emerald by day, ruby by night" because it changes color depending on the lighting.  In flourescent and daylight it apprears green to blue-green, in incandescent, candlelight or warm indoor lighting, it's raspberry-red to red. It may also be found in blue & brownish- green shades.

NATURAL   ($3,299.00)

                                                                              -VS-

LAB CREATED  ($164.00)

Good quality Natural Alexandrite Gemstones are very expensive and out of reach for most to purchase. This is why Lab Created / Lab Grown Alexandrites are increasing in popularity as an affordable alternative.

Quick Facts:

  • Natural Alexandrite is a member of the Chrysoberyl family and holds a prized and High-Priced position among Jewelry & Gemstone Collectors.
  • It ranks a high 8.5 on Mohs' hardness scale, so it's ideal for wearing everyday.
  • Alexandrite was discovered in the emerald mines of Russias' Ural Mountains in 1830.
  • On the day Czar Alexander II came of age, the stone was named in his honor.
  • Primary sources are found in Russia, Madagascar, Brazil, Sri Lanka, Tanzania & Burma ( Myanmar)
  • Alexandrite only forms when aluminum/beryllium and chrome (which rarely occurs in Nature) come together. This accounts for its' rarity.
  • Alexandrite is the Birthstone for June and the gemstone for the 45th & 55th Wedding Anniversary.

As stated previously, Natural Alexandrite is expensive & rare.  This is why it's one of the gemstones we've learned to make in the Lab.

  • GOOD Lab Created Alexandrites are chemically identical to those mined naturally.

  • Natural Alexandrite's Chemical Composition is beryllium aluminum-oxide (BeA12O4)

  • Lab Created Chemical Composition is beryllium simulated alexandrite aluminum- oxide (BeA12O4)

Also, when shopping for Alexandrite, remember there's a significant difference between  Lab Created / Lab Grown and..... Imitation.

Imitation Alexandrite is made from synthetic Corundum.  It does not have the same Chemical Composition and properties. Imitation Gemstones' color - changing characterisitics are inferior as well.

Before you purchase, be sure to clarify with the Seller, if the Alexandrite is Natural, Lab Created / Lab Grown or..... Imitation.

On a final note:

LAB CREATED ALEXANDRITES HAVE THE FULL-SPECTRUM OF COLOR-CHANGE AND ARE AMAZING & AFFORDABLE  FOR JEWELRY.!

 GUESS..

IS IT NATURAL OR LAB CREATED?

(natural :)

Thank you for reading this Guide. I hope it's helped you learn more about Natural  & Lab Created / Lab Grown Alexandrite Gemstones.
