Have you ever shipped something on eBay  by wrapping it in bubble wrap and filling the box with those annoying peanuts to keep it safe? Your packages gets to its destination and your item was still broken! OH, no insurance, too bad, so sorry Charlie. Let's admit, "Fragile" does not mean much to shippers, in fact I think they give your package an extra kick if it is marked "Fragile", seems that way anyway.

Item tends to settle to the side or bottom of a package even when the box is full of peanuts, exposing the item to damage from heavier packages or sharp corners on others. I scratched my head for a better way to protect items more reliably and get them to stay in the middle of the container and one day I was taking out the paper shredder contents and a big bag of those plastic grocery sacks to the garbage can, when a light came on.

Please, only do this with a "Chopper-Shredder" such as those from COSTCO. They cost about a hundred dollars but well worth it as they not only cut the paper into strips, they cut those strips into confetti. I am sure any good chopper-shredder will do the trick; you just do not want someone putting the strips back together again, and they can if the sheet of paper is only cut into long strips.

Solution:

Take some of the contents of your shredder and pack it in a plastic grocery bag to about 1/3 full. You can make them bigger, or smaller as needed. Split the bag down almost to the shredded material and tie a firm knot in the bag straps. Put one or two in the bottom, place your item on them and finish packing the box with more. Your item will stay put in the middle of the package where you put it. The packing bags have quite a bit of give to them but will not let your item shift around much.

If you also destroy CD's and credit cards, etc., with your shredder, you might want to do these in a dedicated run so they do not get mixed up in your packing material. The plastic can sometimes be sharp and poke other thing, including you!

Hope this helps and have a great eBay-day!
