My feelings on a acooter or a wheelchair The question if a wheelchair or scooter is best for you a quite interesting one and is probable not possable to completely answer but as I have well over 20 years experience with a wife that has not been able to stand even with a walker for over 20 years I feel sort of qualified to give my feelings on the subject. Exactly what the above means is that EVERY minute she is out of bed she has to use one or the other of these. My wife has both a real good wheelchair with about every option, it is a later model with a captains chair that we got new and has had a total of 4 scooters over the years, Her wheelchair VERY seldom gets used at all, this one is over 3 1/2 years old and I would say that it has less that 20 hours on it. She just don't like it at all and as I said it has about everything you could ask for on it including a seat lift. She also has 3 older scooters, one is a well over 20 year old 24 volt rear wheel drive that she uses out side ONLY. Now as we live out on the counry we have NO PAVED roads so of course no sidewalks so of coures a front drive would not work outside here anyway. This scooter has a hour meter on it and gets about 28 hours a month average year round. The other 2 are fairly old front drive scooters, both are 12 volt and both have power seats so she can raise herself to make it easier to cook and the rest of the things she needs to do at counter height. Now we don't have a hour meter on either of these but from the time she gets out of bed until she goes back to bed she is on one of her scooters. She uses the 2 indoor scooters on alternaate days as she needs one by the bed as she is up at least twice a nighr. That way one is always on charge. The batteries usually last about 4 years on the 12 volt scooters and 5 years on the 24 volt scooter. She that the reason she don't use the wheelchir is that it is a lot harder to work off of even with a seat lift. Yes I know this is just one side of the story but I sure hope it helps someone make a educated choice. Leroy Gamble HC 34 BOX 34065 Preston NV. 89301
