The above is a Nine Patch quilt. Each block consists of nine individual squares or patches. This particular quilt is called set on point, as the squares are sewn diagonally instead of straight, paralell rows.
This pattern is called Flying Geese. It is comprised of triangles, set on point in rows. This pattern can be done in a variety of configurations, with all the triangles in rows.
Quilts put together with random sized pieces of fabric, and stitched with decorative stitching and embroidery are called Crazy Quilts. They can be made of any type of fabric, silk, satin wool and clothing remnants.
This quilt is called a Bethlehem Star. The star is comprised of diamond shaped pieces. The desirable pieces have beautiful quilting surrounding the star.
The above quilt is called an Applique. Applique quilts can be made in a variety of patterns, flowers, stars, Eagles. Applique is the general term to describe the stitching method. This quilt would be described as a Tulip Applique.
This Log Cabin quilt is one of the oldest quilt patterns.Egyptian cats were found in tombs wrapped in log cabin stitched fabrics. The pattern is comprised of strips of varying lengths sewn together to form a block. Great care is usually taken when placing the colors within the blocks to form a consistent overall design. There is one center square block that is often red in color to represent the hearth burning in the log cabin.
Squares pieced together are simply called a Patchwork Quilt.
Squares placed in rows to create an overall design creates an Irish Chain quilt. There are many variations to this design, all having the same basic structure.
This Autumn Leaf quilt is a prized quilt of collectors. The piecing of the leaves is extremely difficult. The design is created with appliques.
This Basket Quilt is done in beautiful colors. The entire top is constructed of square and triangular pieces. The points created with this design are difficult to execute properly and reflect the skill of the quilter when done flawlessly.
