A Practical Guide For Newbie’s Buying On eBay
Hello and welcome to MCDANNELLS.COM guide!
(MCDANNELLS- MIC DAN NELS)
So you are a Newbie on eBay and ready to make your first buy?
Newbie; NU BE ; A Person who has never Bought Before on eBay; A Person who has Bought before but not much on eBay; A Person who is still insecure about Buying on eBay.
Here are a couple things to consider before making that first purchase on eBay;
One how much money do I want to spend?
First thing you want to do is check your checking account or your cash on hand first before even looking at all the wonderful things on eBay. One thing most Experienced Sellers think when they see a 0 next to a Newbie’s name is “Is this Newbie going to pay for this item”?
An Experienced Seller will most of the time cringe like this if a Newbie buyer even has a 10 next to there name, and will check this Newbie’s feedback!
Ok so you have the money on hand that you want to spend on eBay. Now what you want to remember is “Will the Seller Sell to me”?
MANY Experienced Sellers will not even let a Newbie buy from them. Why is this? Because this Experienced Seller has had so many bad experiences with Newbie’s the Seller has chosen not to even let them buy there items. “This sound loony” you say? It does if you are thinking in small terms. Consider how many people are in this World, how many of them shop online these days? If you consider this, than you may understand better what some of us more experienced Sellers think like.
Let’s Go Shopping!
I found what I want!!
Fantastic! Now what you want to do is look at this Sellers feedback. This is the number next to the Sellers name. Push on these numbers. You can then see what others have left for this Seller. Not only look at the Numbers shown next to this Sellers name, but look at the All Positive Received. This number is more accurate then the number shown next to the Sellers name. How is that you ask? APR means this Seller Sells more then one item to one buyer. eBay only counts ONE feedback from any one Buyer. For instance if a buyer buys Ten items from this Seller and leaves Ten Feedbacks only One of these feedbacks will be counted. If this Buyer comes back to buy more, and leaves feedback for those items, those feedback are not counted in this number that is next to the Sellers name. So always look at the All Positive Received!
The best way to get to no your Seller is look at there negatives, and neutrals. How did they react to these? Did they react with Capital Letters (yelling in the computer world) name calling blaming etc? Did they apologize?
First reaction people have with negativity or criticism is anger. Even Power Sellers look at there Feedback!
If the Seller answered in a calm rational tone I would go with this Seller. If the Seller did not react to the Negative or the Neutral I would also go with this person. Why? This tells me I am dealing with a Calm Rational Seller. This also tells me this Seller takes care of business!
Read the Sellers About Me page. This gives you a “Feel” for who you are giving you money too. If the Seller did not take the time to make an About Me Page, then the only thing you got to go on is the Feedback. I always check out a Sellers About Me Page!
If this Seller has a Store even better! Go into the Store. Look over there Policy pages. These are Custom Pages the Seller has gone out of there way to make for you, the Buyer!
This should be enough for you to no if the Seller will sell to a Newbie. In these pages if an Experienced Seller does not sell to a Newbie you would have read it by now.
Everything looks good, but I am nervous! Now what do I do?
You have done your research on the Seller. Now comes the part that can scare off an Intelligent Rational Person.
The Description is very Professional. The Shipping and Handling is reasonable But I have a question. What do I do?
eBay has provided a message system. This Message System works ok, some Sellers have problems getting there Messages, but all in all it works OK.
Push on Ask A Seller A Question.
Ask your Question. Be polite, give the Seller some respect. Please and Thank You will get you far in this land of Millions! Remember to that your question may not be the only question like yours that has been asked about this same item. If you are rude or short, Some Experienced Sellers will not answer your question. Remember there are Millions of Buyers out there.
This comes to the next concern you as a Newbie have to consider. How long is it going to take for my Question going to take to be answered? I am rather excited about making my first buy!
Most Experienced Sellers have eBay’s Toolbar, which takes at least 10 minutes to get to the Seller. If the Toolbar is working! So give the Seller at least this long! If and only if your question is not an in depth question. That is if it is an easy question, think like a Seller. You also have to prioritize your question. Is this really an important question? If your item has 10 minutes to go before the Auction is over, you may loose out on this item! There is no one else bidding on this item? Doesn’t matter. As a Buyer if the Seller has the option set for you to see how many people have looked at this auction then you can see how many people are at least interested in the item. You will not see how many people are watching this item! There may be other buyers waiting for that last minute to bid on this item you want!
