Lightning: Select and area that has sufficient light but not harsh, direct light. In doors near a bright windowor outside in the shade or late in the day is perfect! You may use your flash camera if needed
Background: A very simple background is ideal. You can use a bed sheet, a plain wall or a natural setting outdoor.
Focus: A very little can be done about a blurry picture. It's important to get a nice, clear and sharp picture. Consult your camera's manual if you are unsure hot to achive this. Get closer to your subject. If you are only taking the headshot, obviuosly the body doesn't need to be in the picture.
